Morganfield's: 5 years of Sticky Bones and a Spare Ribs GIVEAWAY!

Morganfield's claims to serve up the best ribs in town and we were invited to make our own judgement calls.

We tried three different appetisers, the Popcorn Pork, Golden Fried Wings and the Crab and Spinach Dip.

The Popcorn Pork is lightly marinated bite-sized pork cubes that have been deep fried till crisp. We enjoyed the homemade goodness of garlic aioli and BBQ Ranch sauce which helped to mask the milk pork odour from the pork cubes and enhanced the satisfaction of "popping" the cubes into our mouths.

The Golden Wings had succulent flesh encased in crispy golden skin; with flavours that leaned towards that of prawn paste wings, except milder. The wings were delightful on its own and no sauce was needed for this one. So much self-control was called for to avoid digging into this treat non-stop.

Honestly, I am never one to order chips with dips as an appetiser. But the Crab and Spinach dip caught me off guard. Never would I expect the dip to be exploding with such strong crab flavours and the combination of the chips with dip was extremely moreish. This dish will make you resist the joint and order this without fail.

The appetisers were a great start to the meal but the star has got to be Morganfield's Signature Sticky Bones Spare Ribs. Using only carefully selected pork spare ribs sourced directly from Spain and years of perfecting their secret recipe, Morganfield's have managed to achieve fall-off-the-bone pork ribs. The ribs were oh-so-tender and the combination with Hickory BBQ sauce was a match made in heaven.

Other than the famous spare ribs, in celebration of Morganfield's 5th anniversary, diners can also try Baby Back Ribs as well as Iberia Sticky Bones Spare Ribs.

In case you were wondering what the difference between Spare ribs and baby back ribs are. Wonder no more! Spare Ribs are cut from the belly of the pig while Baby back ribs are cut from where the rib meets the spine after the loin is removed. As a result, spare ribs are meatier, fattier and more flavourful compared to Baby Back Ribs.

For something more premium, diners can opt for the Iberico Sticky Bones Spare Ribs. This premium breed of special black pigs are found only in Spain and are renowned worldwide to produce the best pork.

Among the three different meat options, I personally enjoyed the Baby Back Ribs best. I enjoyed how it was the lowest in fat content and the easiest to eat amongst the three. The portion of Baby Back Ribs I was served somehow translated to a more tender and meatier rendition than the spare ribs. That being said, preference of the different cut is split down the middle within the group and to get best of all worlds, I would recommend diners to get the half-half set where they can try both cuts and do a side by side comparison.

We tried a side of corn bread together with the ribs. Truth be told, I was quite full when it came to the corn bread and was initially reluctant to try it. However I was glad that I mustered enough stomach room for it in the end. With corn kernels found within fluffy and mildly sweetened bread, the corn bread was a great complement to the flavourful ribs and good enough to be eaten on its own!

Stuffed as we were, there's always room for desserts! We ended the meal off on a sweet note with a Chocolate Lava Cake. Served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and caramel drizzle, it was extremely satisfying to cut through the cake and witness thick chocolate lava oozing freely from the center. The cake was moist and the lava extremely rich. The pairing of the ice cream and caramel sauce magnifying the sin quotient on this cake. A great albeit guilt-inducing way to end the meal.

Having tried it for ourselves, I'm glad to say that Morganfield's does indeed serve one of the best, if not best ribs in town.

In conjunction with Morganfield's , I will be giving away 2 Full Slabs of Sticky Bones (worth $42.90 each) to 2 of my lucky winners. Make sure to follow and hop on over to my Instagram account (@fundamentally_flawed) to take part!
