Oxwell and Co presents The Ladies Dining Society: seasonal 3-course menu for $50++

Remember the bohemian space, like a dingy pub gone rogue that once churned out the darnedest Christmas menu I've ever laid eyes on? (read about it here) They've returned with an equally lunatic deal for the satisfaction of the fairer sex whilst their other half does the usual pub-crawl to placate the dog-tired humpday spirit.

Every Wednesday from 8th June 2016 onwards, ladies get to enjoy a glass of Perrier Jouet champagne followed by an exclusive three-course dinner menu specially crafted by the deft Head Chef Nick Scorpion, finished with a chaser of sweet nothings in the form of a dessert cocktail pairing. Read, cocktail and dessert inclusive, for a tight package of just $50++. OH...Oxwell and Co; you've got other business owners wagging their droopy tails in bewilderment. But then again, being on the receiving end, you'll come to realise that this deal is indisputably worthwhile.

Ladies looking for a decadent evening out about town? Oxwell and Co's peculiar and refined dining experience fits the bill perfectly. One look at their sultry orange lit second floor establishment with familiar neon lights spurring on the drinking spirits and I'm sold.

Following a friendly banter with the bubblies; the dinner commences with an enchanting choice of appetisers. Both beautiful albeit inherent of different merits. The Cured Mackerel with house made pickles and juniper dressing is your usual salty protein with mirror like reflections from its perfect sear, dressed with a myriad of pickles, gherkins, onions and carrots for that burst of acidity that works effectively as a palate cleanser. The Japanese Tomato Salad, cottage cheese and sweet pea sprouts may sounds like the more innocent choice; especially with the judgmental stares of the ladies all around you and an impending wedding in the works - when in actual fact; this dish should be deemed the better choice. The immaculate combination of pesto, tomato compote and sweet Japanese tomatoes with shards of cottage cheese flecked through making for an elegant affair; making sweeping statements on the palate.

Moving on to entrees, ladies will have to toss up between Poached Free Range Chicken with White Asparagus, peppercorn sauce and garlic flowers or the Red Grouper Fillet with citrus couscous and champagne beurre blanc.  Once again, Chef Nick demonstrates a delicate hand in both dishes, the former featuring sous vide chicken doused in a light pepper sauce dished up alongside roasted chicken skin and white asparagus. A flawless combination that not only looks pretty, but give plenty of opportunity for knife work in between illustrious bites and convivial conversations with the girlies. More suited for the meat-lovers within the feminine species, the grouper has an almost meat-like texture due to the solid hunk of creamy grouper employer. Sure, you can fault the champagne beurre blanc from suffering a certain ill-fate due to overindulgence in butter; but that kind of worked to its benefit with the protein lacking that feminine demeanour to allow such a light sauce to shine. I would have loved the cous cous to be swapped out for cauliflower puree or fried quinoa; but that's just me.

And since women's correlation to dessert is rather transparent - majority of the attention has been spilled into the dessert and cocktail pairing for certain happy endings. Choose between the Milk and Honey Reviver or the more genial Lemon Posset. The former attending to the needs of the chocolate fiends, pairing Jameson Whisky, espresso and vanilla cream, almost like a Irish coffee sans the gimmicky blue flames. The honeycomb crumble with coconut sago, a light finish and perfect foundation for more drinks to ensue *hint hint*. However, my heart lies with the Lemon Posset; a medieval drink turned modern British dessert - the silky citrus custard acting as the perfect sort of dip for the accompanying sticks of shortbread; powered by rough crystals of unrefined brown sugar for extra crunch.

The Ladies Dining Society will be available every Wednesday from the 8th June 2016 onwards. A three-course menu that you know exactly what you're paying for. And after all that is said and done, tummies stuffed and satiated by the pinch of alcohol unleashed - but of course you have time; you're welcome to explore the other domains of Oxwell and Co. Make your way up to the Rooftop Garden and bar, and drink from the exclusive Hendrick's cocktail list, topped off with stunning views overlooking Chinatown.
