Carvers & Co : Smashing Burgers and Kimchi Fries

I know, I know its Singapore's birthday today and judging by the boxes of remarkable flatlays of local foods flooding my instagram feed, everyone is out there frolicking with pratas, chwee kueh, hokkien mee and chicken rice this morning in a bid to rally the national day spirit.

I'm afraid, that's not really my jam. So I'm going to steer you towards some amazing burgers and fries from Carvers and Co. Lucky for you, the kind folks will be serving up their flagship burger, The General all weekend long.

So drop the dishes, drop the baby, let go of the steering wheel, flush the toilet, turn off the shower, unplug the oven, kick over the fuckin' TV, drop your pants, heck, drop everything, dance around, wave your hands in the air like you just don't care and order it now.

You will not regret it.

If that isn't convincing enough, here's the K-Town Nacho Fries ($12) - a monster rendition of the usual cheese fries with a mighty splotch of sour cream and finely chopped spicy kimchi over the top. The melted cheese like a pot of gold, filling all the crooks and crevices between crisp fries. If you like your poutine, let this sit a while longer and you've got a wicked mess on your hands.

K-Town Nacho Fries

Pop open a bottle to celebrate Spore's birthday. At Carvers and co. choices aren't substantial but you've got all your major pairings nailed. The Nogne's Two Captains Double IPA carrying lots of tropical notes, with whiffs of pineapple, lychee and mango underneath the bitter hops is a perfect accompaniment to my burger philandering.

Moving on, meet THE GENERAL ($25). Even writing about this is so hard, my natural instinct to want to keep this under wraps leading to some form of word constipation. But since we're all soaking in the spirit of racial harmony here, I'm not planning to start a war.. so yes, back to the general, this my friends, is the very representation of the word 'epic'.

Super secret patty, bacon weave overhead (*swoons*), dijonnaise, homemade ketchup, aged cheddar, caramelised onions, all that between classic artisanal buns studded with sesame seeds.  Everything about this burger vouches for the tenacity of the team behind it, the details in the fabric spanning from the hardy bacon weave (an arrangement pivotal to the wholesome consumption of the burger), to the ratio of fat and meat in the patties that rendered a juicy mess on the wooden boards (word of advice: you might want to position your fries to catch the drippings), it was all... too perfect.

Piccolo Latte

Dessert arrives in the form of a picturesque Piccolo Latte derived from Antihero roasted coffee beans, Carvers and Co's house blend comprising of 60% Brazilian yellow bourbon and 40% Ethiopian Sidamo resulting in a robust caramel and chocolate body with a slight berry tartness at the end. Definitely my cup of tea coffee.

Even as I confess to dining as a guest of Carvers and Co, but by no means are my views biased or skewered - Over at Fundamentally Flawed, we take our burgers very seriously and observe the mantra that #burgerlove cannot be bought.

So heed my advice and be out the door already.

I had THE GENERAL burger and I liked it a lot. A bit expensive, but every bite was packed with goodness. Juicy meat (dripping onto the wooden chopping board), crispy bacon and fries fried just nice.
Quite filling, but still had room for dessert which was even better.
Thanks for the tip.
